Track description

From Passo Tonale or from the Pontedilegno-Tonale cable car station follow the dirt road that cuts the wet plains of the Tonale and goes down to Ponte di Legno. Go beyond the national road by the flyover over the ski runs; proceed on the old dirt road of the Tonale up to an aedicula. Here turn right and climb up on a mule track that reaches the Tonale national road; cross it and continue up to Vescasa Alta, a marvellous natural balcony over the valley of Ponte di Legno. With some ups and downs you get to the end of the dirt road and take a beautiful trail, which is quite steep at the beginning, and which leads to Talasso with an amusing descent. Then turn right and take the “Strada Tonalina” (Tonalina road), at the junction after Case Piazzola ride uphill on the long forest road (3 km.) that leads to the enchanting hamlet of Case di Viso (1758 mt.). Then go downhill on the asphalt up to the junction nearby Case Pirli, pass through this marvellous and still pristine rural hamlet, turn left and take the pleasant mule track to the little village of Pezzo. Go through it, continue up to the switchback and follow the nice dirt road that takes you to the beautiful plain of Case di Giuoco first and then to Santa Apollonia. Go downhill on the provincial road of the Gavia for some hundred meters up to the beginning of the trail that runs alongside the hydrographic left of the wild torrent Frigidolfo. By the switchback above the "Ponte dei Buoi" bridge cross the asphalt road again and return to Ponte di Legno.
